THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BIXBY

Benjamin Bixby designer Andre Benjamin, photographed by Peggy Sirota for GQ.

The always stylish and fashion forward Andre Benjamin (1/2 member of the super rap duo Outkast), has stepped out of his comfort zone by entering today's cut throat fashion industry. Benjamin launched his first clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, last season during New York Fashion Week.

The Bixby clothing line is inspired by late 1930’s college football documentaries and the official launch was hosted by Charlize Theron at Barney's in New York City. Benjamin definitely made good on his promise to deliver a unique and stylistic debut that most of us gentlemen can wear.

I had the opportunity to attend his launch event and I must say that the man (known as Mr. 3000) seemed very humble yet excited about his clothing line debut.

In other exciting news, the CFDA and GQ have collaborated on the Best New Menswear Designers in America project, which recognizes six finalists selected by GQ creative director Jim Moore and Damien Nunes. Benjamin Bixby is one of the six finalists.

Each designer will present a selection of looks from his 2009 fall collection at an event on February 11, 2009; the winner will subsequently be selected by a panel of industry experts including GQ's editor Jim Nelson, CFDA executive director Steven Kolb and designer Thom Browne.

The team here at Guerilla Style Tactics wishes Benjamin the best luck and hopefully we'll get an invitation to the show too!
